Extended About Me

Last Updated: 20/9/2026

Hi there! Welcome to my blog.
This is an extended about me page containing some of my interests and hobbies that might lead to interesting discussions.
Trust me, take a moment to read it and you might just find something interesting about me.

I'm Feng, 22, Malaysian Chinese.

I can understand English, Chinese and Malay.

I am currently studying for a Degree in Networking and Cybersecurity at Sunway University.

I perform my own maintenance on my own PCs.
I like using Raspberry Pis and I dual boot MX Linux with the KDE Desktop alongside Windows.
I have used OpenWRT as well as Mikrotik Routers to run my home network.
I use Home Assistant to run my Smart Home.
I utilize Pi-Hole to block advertisements on my network.
I use Proxmox to run my home lab.
I make use of Yubikeys to secure my online accounts.
I have a Chameleon Ultra to make dealing with access cards easier.

For games I mostly play Helldivers 2 and Mindustry currently.
Special shout out to Night in the Woods and the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series.

I have played with microcontrollers like the STM32, ESP32, nRF52, RP2040, though most of my projects are experiments and prototypes that are not production ready.
I have played with stuff from brands like Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Espressif, M5Stack, Seeed Studio, WCH and more.

I can solder at an amateur level. I use a Pinecil v2, no hot air SMD rework here!

I take Air Quality seriously and have built DIY AirGradient Air Quality Monitors to monitor the air around me.

I am also interested in RF/Radio as I have played with LoRa with the Meshtastic protocol/firmware.
You can find my node FNGO on the MY_919 MediumFast channel.
I also have a RTL-SDR v4 and other SDR dongles that I use to run FlightAware's PiAware as well as FlightRadar24's FR24FEED to collect and share ADS-B data in exchange for premium access to their services.
I am also currently looking into getting an Amateur Radio Operator's License.

I would describe my music tastes as odd, alternative and non mainstream. You'll rarely find me listening to the radio except for Traxx FM during Saturday Nights when they have their "Alternation" program.
I listen mainly to Rock and Metal music, also Indie and Alternative music, however anything with powerful lyrics or melody are also good in my book.

Some of the bands I enjoy include (but not limited to): Breaking Benjamin, Starset, Linkin Park, Saosin, In Flames, Pendulum, Wintergatan, Valiant Hearts

In terms of sports, I am not currently active in sports but I have previously participated in:

Wushu (2017 to 2020) - Did it in a small local school club, ranked up to Purple Belt before COVID put an end to it. Might still revisit someday.
Archery - a one off trial in 2019, I still find it interesting but currently have no plans to pursue it.
Fencing - a one off trial in 2026, I absolutely loved it and would love to revisit it again when the logistics line up. Read my blog post on it

I am also currently attempting to try to learn Russian.
